Diploma issued by the organising club Lokomotiv BrnoThe first Sunday in the month of October this year 2009 was the 4th.  That meant the traditional start of the winter swimming season in the Czech Republic.

So, in the 61st running of this event around 170 swimmers took part, and as usual they swam through an underground river at The Punkva Jeskyne caves  in Moravia in the Eastern Czech Republic.

Some swum the 100m course, whereas others swum the 300m course. Air temperature in the caves was 9 c and the water just 8.5c.  (see photo of diploma) Bearing in mind the mild weather we have experienced around Europe this Autumn, these conditions were a little testing to say the least !

It was real cold water swimming but the real test of bodyand mind will be in the depths of winter when the water temperature will be somewhere around zero.
