Speaking from experience Lake Bled, nestled underneath the Julian alps at an altitude of 475m is a fantastic location for winter swimming. The area will of course be carpeted in snow during the winter months but the lake doesn’t freeze over and the surface temperature remains at around 4c. This is due to the slightly thermal springs that supply the lake with its water. so there is the prospect of beautiful winter scenery and nice winter water.

After successfully holding the world winter swimming championships in 2010, the city of Bled has decided to organise another winter swimming event. It will take place on the weekend of February the 11th and 12th. The opportunity exists for some winter swimming and other activities such as hiking, alpine & cross country skiing and many others. If you just want to relax then Bled is also a fantastic destination. I can’t say too much now but there may also be a screening of my film “Winter swimming” and some long distance winter swimming.

This event is being supported by Borut and Martin at Strel swimming adventures and more information can be found on the official website here.
